Maldives Police Service (MPS) officers entered the premises of the Road Development Corporation (RDC) as part of an investigation into an ongoing case.
MPS officially confirmed their presence on the premises of the Road Development Corporation (RDC), citing a court order as the basis for their entry, but have chosen not to disclose further details regarding the nature of the investigation.
Sources indicate that the police inquiry is linked to a case involving the alleged misappropriation of MVR 13 million in petty cash. Since 2019, a series of deposits totaling this amount have reportedly been made into the personal accounts of several staff members within the corporation.
The corporation initially defended these transactions, asserting that they were legitimate petty cash allowances.
According to the RDC, the monthly deposits into the accounts of three employees in the Finance Department adhered to a company policy governing petty cash handling.
RDC Managing Director, Moosa Ali Manik, vehemently denies the allegations, asserting that there has been no theft within the company. The case, originally brought to the attention of the police by the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), is currently under investigation.
