Police Inaugurate CCTV Surveillance Centre in Southern Maldives

A new police surveillance centre, equipped to monitor CCTV cameras across all islands of Addu City, was inaugurated by Police Commissioner Ali Shujau.

Located under the jurisdiction of the Southern Regional Command, the centre also serves Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu Atolls, and Fuvahmulah City. The police service stated that this facility would streamline services for the public and enhance communication between residents and law enforcement.

The centre, the first of its kind outside the capital Malé, is designed to provide 24-hour surveillance using over 300 CCTV cameras installed across Addu City, including Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo islands.

Commissioner Shujau highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating it would strengthen ties between the police and the community. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shameem, South Division Commander, emphasised the centre’s role in fostering public trust.

In addition to improving public trust, the facility aims to expedite service delivery and bolster security in the region, police officials added.
