Maldives Police Service conducted an inspection of the Male’ beach area beneath the Sinamale’ Bridge following reports of expatriates living and sleeping rough in the area.

Authorities said the inspection was prompted by complaints on social media highlighting that a group of individuals had been occupying the space under the bridge. Police observed signs of habitation and are coordinating with relevant authorities to take appropriate action to address the situation.

Police noted that such cases may involve vulnerable individuals requiring social assistance and support. The department confirmed it is working with related agencies to ensure the protection of those affected and to safeguard their interests.

Officials emphasised that prompt reporting of such issues supports rapid investigation and the timely implementation of necessary measures.

The issue was first highlighted after a video published by Dhuvas News showed temporary bedding laid out under the bridge, with one expatriate appearing to be asleep. The footage also revealed significant amounts of trash in the area.
