Police Investigate Bullying of Teenage Boy Inside a Mosque in Rasdhoo

Maldives Police Service (MPS) is investigating a case of a teenage boy being bullied inside a mosque toilet in AA. Rasdhoo after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The video shows a teenage boy being repeatedly slapped and kicked by two other boys inside a toilet. The two boys who appear older are heard verbally abusing the boy and pouring a bottle of water on his head before asking him to kneel and beg for mercy while continually kicking his body.
Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau confirmed on X that the incident occured in the island of Rasdhoo, adding that police is investigating the incident as a “serious matter”.
A police spokesperson told the media that two teenage boys, aged 13 and 14, have been identified as suspects for the bullying. Police are working with relavant authorities to provide psycho-social support to the victim of the bullying, police said.
Police advised the media and the public to refrain from sharing the video online as the video contains triggering content and infringes on the child’s dignity.
Ali Ihusaan, the minister for Homeland Security and Technology, tweeted that police are working to find the perpetrators and take immediate action.
“I will ensure that the strictest action is taken against those who commit such acts in the society,” he added
The Ministry of Social and Family Development said in a tweet that the ministry is working with police to take appropriate action after the video was brought to their attention.
