Police said they will prioritise the prevention of theft, drug- and alcohol-related offences, and will also take action against motorcycles fitted with modified silencers.
Authorities warned that officers will question individuals and take appropriate action against anyone found to be violating public order or societal norms.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Shareef said the operation will continue until 2 January. He said it will cover Malé, Hulhumalé, Villimalé and nearby resorts, with the aim of enhancing public and tourist safety and increasing police visibility to reduce crime.
