According to the Maldives Police Service, the ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the hoisting of the national flag. Police officers then recited the Police Pledge, and a special prayer was offered to mark the anniversary.
A book of condolences was also opened during the ceremony in remembrance of two senior figures who served the state for decades: Abdul Shakoor Abdulla, a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police who served for more than 43 years, and Hassan Hameed, who served the state for over 35 years.
The book was signed by Minister Ihusaan, Deputy Commissioner Fikury and other commissioned officers during the ceremony.
According to the Maldives Police Service, similar flag hoisting ceremonies were held at police stations across the country, with participation from local government officials and police personnel stationed in the atolls, reflecting nationwide observance of the anniversary.
The annual event marks over nine decades since the establishment of the Maldives Police Service and is observed each year with ceremonial activities across the archipelago.
In a message marking the occasion, President Mohamed Muizzu described the police as the nation’s “Blue Army,” praising officers for their tireless service and dedication.

“Today marks the day of the ‘Blue Army’—those who serve this nation with tireless dedication and resolve, day and night. It is Maldives Police Day,” he said, extending congratulations and gratitude to serving officers, those who have served since the institution’s inception, and their families.
Muizzu also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the institution, stating that one of its primary goals is to ensure the police remain a disciplined and capable force that delivers essential services. He added that the vision is for the police to uphold safety and public trust for both Maldivians and foreigners in the country.
