Police Officer Suspended After Alleged Assault and Damage at Malé Salon

Maldives Police Service (MPS) suspended an officer for allegedly damaging property at a salon in Malé, assaulting an employee, and obstructing police who arrived to investigate the case.
According to MPS, they received a report on Friday that a man had entered a salon in Malé, disrupted services, damaged property, and assaulted an employee. When officers arrived, the suspect, identified as Ali Manik from Hithadhoo, Addu City, obstructed police from carrying out their duties and was arrested at the scene.
The police confirmed that Ali Manik is a serving officer and said he has been suspended without pay, effective yesterday.
A criminal investigation is underway, and the Professional Standards Command is taking steps to initiate the necessary administrative measures, according to the Police.
The criminal court has ordered that he be held in custody for five days.
