Chief Superintendent Ahmed Nafiz, Acting Head of the Crime Investigation Command, confirmed yesterday that the parliament has escalated the matter to law enforcement authorities.
According to Nafiz, the police have received reports from both the parliament, and individual members who sustained injuries during the clashes.
These reports detail instances of physical assault and the receipt of threatening messages by the affected MPs, prompting concerns for their safety. Nafiz assured that the police are diligently probing into each case.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation, Nafiz stated that relevant authorities have been promptly notified and necessary measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of all parliamentary members.
Among those injured in the altercations were Kanditheemu Constituency MP Abdullah Shaheem Abdul Hakeem, who underwent treatment for a head injury, and Mathiveri MP Hassan Zareer, who also sustained injuries during the clashes.
