Police have checked 576 locations and towed six vehicles over the weekend as part of an intensified crackdown on gang activity in Male’ and Hulhumale’.

According to statistics released on Saturday, the Gang Crime Suppression Department conducted the raids within a 48-hour period. Officers carried out 108 interactions and searched 30 vehicles. Six of the vehicles were towed, although police have not disclosed the reasons for the seizures.

The operation included 912 minutes, equivalent to about 15 hours, of foot patrols across various parts of the capital. No arrests were reported, and police have not confirmed whether any suspects were taken into custody.

The increased enforcement follows the recent enactment of tougher laws targeting gang-related crime, granting police expanded powers to investigate and intervene.

The Ministry of Homeland Security has previously stated that 50 arrests linked to gang-related offences have been recorded within the first 52 weeks of the current administration.
