Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen stated that the equipment will enhance police response to disasters, including heavy rains and fire incidents. The equipment will be distributed to police stations across the atolls, with distribution set to begin soon.
NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan emphasised the police’s role as first responders and noted that the donation aims to improve safety and disaster response at the island level. The equipment is intended to mitigate disaster losses and ensure the protection of residents.
Funded by Denmark, Luxembourg and South Korea under UNDP’s Risk Informed Development in Small Island Developing States (RID in SIDS) project, the equipment seeks to reduce island vulnerability, strengthen early warning systems, and enhance emergency response skills amid climate risks.
