Police Recover MVR 10,000 Stolen in Social Media Hack
The Maldives Police Service has successfully recovered over MVR 10,000, which was stolen after a perpetrator hacked into an individual’s Facebook and Viber accounts and impersonated the victim.
The incident, reported last Friday, involved the hacker gaining control of the victim’s social media accounts and deceiving others into sending money.
Police stated that they identified three accounts where the stolen money was deposited, leading to the recovery of MVR 10,700. During the investigation, officers searched an apartment and seized ATM deposit slips, cash cards, and sim cards from Dhiraagu and Ooredoo.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no arrests made yet.
Police Investigate Naifaru Hospital Server Hacking
Police are probing a hacking incident involving the server of Lh. Naifaru Hospital. A police team was dispatched to the island on Monday following a report of the breach, which occurred last Thursday.
The hackers reportedly tampered with the hospital’s database, introducing flaws. However, the hospital’s Assistant Director, Humaid Abdul Razzaq, confirmed that all services are operating as normal, with the patient management system fully functional.
The hospital serves the population of Naifaru and three other islands in the atoll, which has a total population of approximately 13,000 people.
Foreigner Arrested After Police Seize 106 Alcohol Bottles
A foreign national has been arrested following the seizure of 106 bottles of alcohol from a vehicle in Male’ City. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Bangladeshi national Rasul Ula Ridhoy, was taken into custody after police discovered the alcohol during a search early on Friday.
The incident occurred at Bodufulhah Goalhi, where a group fled the scene after noticing officers in the area. The Criminal Court has remanded the suspect in custody for 15 days, and the case is under investigation.
Earlier in the week, police arrested another foreign national in a separate case involving the possession of 144 cans of beer.
Youth Remanded for Motorbike Theft
A 30-year-old man has been remanded for 15 days in connection with the theft of a motorbike in Male’ City. The suspect, identified as Ahmed Shairaf, was arrested on Saturday morning following the theft at Gulaabee Magu.
The case is part of a rising trend of theft and robbery in the city, with a notable increase in incidents in recent months. Last week, police arrested another man for using a stolen motorbike during a mugging incident.
All cases are under investigation by the police.
