Maldives Police Service (MPS) reported today the recovery of laptops stolen from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The theft, involving five laptops, was reported yesterday. The devices were taken from HDC’s project office in the Farukolhufushi area of Hulhumale’.
A police representative confirmed that the stolen laptops were retrieved later the same day. The suspect, currently in custody for an unrelated drug case, is believed to be connected to the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The laptop theft occurred as HDC faces scrutiny over alleged corruption related to land allocations in Hulhumale’. While some media outlets claimed the stolen devices were from HDC’s finance department and linked to the corruption probe, HDC has denied these allegations.
