Police Shut Down Three Suspected Drug Cafés in Kaashidhoo

The Maldives Police Service has closed down three suspected drug cafés in Kaashidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, following a special operation carried out yesterday.

The operation was launched after intelligence indicated that drugs were being smuggled into the island. During the operation, police searched individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and inspected locations linked to illegal drug activity. This led to the discovery and closure of three establishments believed to be functioning as drug cafés.
Two men were arrested in connection with the case. They were identified as Hassan Munaz, 40, from M. Nalhiyaa Manzil in Male’, and Ibrahim Zaid, 46, from Binunimaage in Male’. Police stated the arrests were made on suspicion of drug smuggling, sale, and use.
Substances believed to be drugs were found on both individuals when they were stopped and searched on Kaashidhoo roads. The preliminary weight of the suspected drugs was recorded at 9.27 grams. The case remains under investigation by the Maldives Police Service.
