Authorities have been addressing the issue of illegal parking since at least September last year. The Ministry of Transport previously reported that over 65 per cent of roads and streets in Malé are occupied by parked or idle vehicles, contributing to traffic congestion, accidents, and a shortage of parking spaces.
In addition to clearing vehicles in Malé, police recently worked with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to remove old and unused vehicles from the streets of Hulhumalé.
