The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has taken action to address the issue of illegally parked vehicles in Male’ by towing away over 300 vehicles.

This measure comes amidst growing concerns over the significant traffic congestion witnessed in Male’ and Hulhumale’ attributed to vehicles being parked unlawfully.

A notable effort unfolded on March 14, where the police removed 40 vehicles from Ameenee Magu alone. Intensified monitoring has been deployed to tackle illegal parking, focusing on key areas including the green zone, public transport routes, road corners, street intersections, and school zones.

Authorities have underscored their commitment to enforcing legal measures against vehicles obstructing access near office complexes, hospitals, mosques, facilities catering to individuals with special needs, and in front of public establishments and garages.

Earlier this year, the MPS took steps to alleviate the parking situation in Male’ City by temporarily halting the issuance of parking stickers in January, pending the establishment of additional parking zones.

However, concerns persisted regarding the ongoing traffic congestion and challenges in road usage due to vehicles occupying both sides of the roads.
