The Maldives Police Service has issued a public warning following a rise in scams targeting customers of Temu, a widely used online shopping platform in the country recently.
Authorities report that fraudsters have created fake websites and are distributing phishing messages designed to trick individuals into disclosing personal and payment information.

Among the tactics identified are messages and emails that appear to originate from Temu or associated courier services. These messages often include links that prompt recipients to provide sensitive details, claiming issues such as delayed orders or outstanding charges.
Police have also noted that some scams involve the use of fraudulent websites and online advertisements which request credit card information under the guise of resolving payment issues. In addition, scammers are targeting 2D cards—those that do not require two-factor authentication—making it easier to carry out unauthorised transactions if cardholders enter their information on phishing sites.
To mitigate the risk, police have advised the public to exercise caution when receiving messages from unfamiliar or suspicious numbers. They have also urged users to avoid clicking on links unless they clearly lead to the official Temu website, highlighting the importance of checking for altered or misspelt domain names.
The public is further encouraged not to submit any personal or financial details through unverified platforms or links shared via SMS or email.
