The Foreign Ministry has issued directives for political appointees serving in Maldivian embassies abroad to return to the Maldives before November 18th.

President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reportedly made this request, and 61 individuals occupying diplomatic posts outside of the Maldives have been instructed to comply with the deadline.

This move aligns with concerns raised during the presidential election campaign by the opposition PPM-PNC coalition, to which Muizzu belongs. The coalition expressed reservations about the employment of family members and close associates of senior government officials in Maldivian embassies abroad, citing significant expenses from the state budget.

Preparations for Muizzu’s oath-taking ceremony, scheduled for next Friday at 4:45 pm at the Republic’s Square, are underway. The parliament’s secretariat is overseeing the arrangements for the ceremony, to which leaders from neighboring foreign nations have been extended invitations.

Simultaneously, Muizzu is actively engaged in efforts to form his cabinet as part of the post-election transition process.
