The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is set to convene a senate meeting tonight, marking the first gathering following the departure of former President Abdulla Yameen from the party.
Scheduled to commence at 9 pm tonight, the meeting aims to deliberate on strategic actions the party must undertake in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary election.
In a notable move, PPM had previously decided to participate in the parliamentary elections in collaboration with the People’s National Congress (PNC). At the time, PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) expressed confidence that the coalition would secure more than 70 seats in parliament.
The coalition had announced the primary elections for the upcoming parliamentary election, scheduled for January 20, with the application window open from December 20 to the end of the month.
However, a significant development occurred when former President Yameen announced his departure from PPM, revealing plans to establish a distinct political party.
