President Addresses Developmental Needs Across Faadhippolhu Atoll
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu addressed several developmental needs across Faadhippolhu Atoll while meeting with the atoll’s councils yesterday, including harbor construction, healthcare infrastructure, and education.
Faadhippolhu Atoll: Restoration and Transportation Enhancements
In the meeting with Faadhippolhu Atoll Council, council members highlighted the imperative restoration of the State House, the development of an uninhabited island as a picnic destination, concerns related to the permitted sand mining area, and the removal of existing restrictions in baitfishing zones. The Council’s concerns were acknowledged, with assurances from the President to address them.
Kurendhoo Island: Coastal Erosion and Land Shortage in Focus
In Kurendhoo Island, the president pledged to tackle the pressing issue of land shortage during a meeting with the Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) at Kurendhoo Habashi Pre-School.
Among the issues highlighted by the Council were the habour project’s delay, coastal erosion, land scarcity, housing needs, and the allocation of land for economic activities. Additionally, there was an emphasis on expediting the completion of the school’s multipurpose hall, improving health center services, and enhancing electricity provision on the island.
President Dr. Muizzu, accompanied by attending Ministers, provided updates on the Government’s efforts to address these concerns. He offered assurances of practical solutions, particularly focusing on mitigating coastal erosion, which is a critical issue for the island.
Lh. Olhuvelifushi: Delays in Infrastructure Projects Highlighted
In a separate engagement, the president convened with the Council of Lh. Olhuvelifushi and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) to discuss pivotal developmental initiatives for the island. Concerns regarding the delayed commencement of harbour construction, water supply and sanitation system completion, electricity supply enhancement, and accessibility to sea ambulance services were raised during this meeting.
Moreover, the Women’s Development Committee stressed the importance of Ramadan allowances for its members and highlighted budget constraints hindering their building renovation efforts.
The President, alongside Ministers, addressed these concerns and assured prompt action, particularly regarding sea ambulance services.
Lh. Hinnavaru Island: Accelerating Socioeconomic Development
President Dr Muizzu engaged with the Lh. Hinnavaru Island Council and WDC to discuss developmental plans. The focus was on electricity service, harbor project modifications, and completion of housing projects.
Council members also emphasised the urgency of accelerating project completion for the council secretariat building, establishing a bank outpost alongside the existing ATM service.
The President assured swift action and provided updates through attending Ministers.
Lh. Naifaru Island: Comprehensive Developmental Plans Discussed
President Dr Muizzu addressed a wide array of concerns raised by the Lh. Naifaru Island Council and WDC, ranging from infrastructure to healthcare and education needs.
Council members highlighted the need to resolve issues related to electricity and water network services, road construction and the need for specialist doctors at Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital.
There is also a need to expand the area slated for land reclamation, improve education at Naifaru School by establishing a new school or adding an extension building, and build a Youth Centre, they said.
The President affirmed the Administration’s commitment to resolving the issues raised.
