President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced a special allowance of up to MVR 100,000 for tenants of the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats in Galolhu to address concerns raised by occupants.
The President met residents yesterday at Mulee’aage, the Official Residence of the President, where they outlined issues related to living conditions, outstanding rent and penalty charges, and the difficulties faced in meeting payment obligations.
In response, the President confirmed that tenants of Sinamalé Flats 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as Malé Hiyaa Flats 1 and 2, will receive the special allowance. He also decreed that all penalties on outstanding rent will be waived.
Under the arrangement, families residing in the affected flats will receive up to MVR 100,000, taking into account the prolonged failure to resolve structural issues and building deterioration.
Where the total outstanding amount exceeds MVR 100,000, the payable amount will be capped at MVR 100,000. If the outstanding amount is less than MVR 100,000, it will be fully waived, and any remaining balance will be deposited into the tenant’s account. Tenants who have already completed full payment for their flats will receive the full MVR 100,000 directly into their accounts.
