President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Dhiyamigili Dynasty (ODRDD) on Adam Abdul Rahman at the official National Day ceremony held this morning in Utheemu, North Thiladhunmathi Atoll.
Adam Abdul Rahman, widely known as Utheemu Adam, began his public service on 26 August 1965 as Island Chief of Utheemu. He later served as Atoll Chief for over 11 years across three terms, navigating challenges posed by limited resources. During the 1970s, when several atolls faced severe shortages of basic food supplies, his leadership ensured no resident of Utheemu went hungry.
He also played a key role in improving administrative efficiency while working with the Ministry of Atolls Administration. Among his reforms was the introduction of a contractual system to manage development projects, replacing direct transport of goods and compensation from Malé. He extended essential administrative services to previously underserved islands, enhancing accessibility for local communities.
