President Designates Islands Under Ungoofaaru and Vashafaru Jurisdictions

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu changed the designated islands under of Raa Atoll, Ungoofaaru, and Haa Alifu Atoll, Vashafaru, under separate presidential pledges on Thursday.
Under the changes, the president designated Raa Atoll, Ungulu, as part of Ungoofaaru, in the same atoll.
The amendment was made under the authority granted to the president by Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act. Following the decision, the list of inhabited islands specified in Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 has been updated and republished in the Government Gazette.
In a separate decision, the president designated Haa Alifu Atoll, Kandaalifinolhu, as part of Vashafaru in the same atoll.
This amendment was also made under Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act. The designation followed a request submitted by residents of Vashafaru.
With the change formalised through a presidential decree, Presidential Decree No. 2/2025, which specifies the inhabited islands of the Maldives, has been amended and republished in the Government Gazette.
