The Office of the President-elect has formally called upon the incumbent government to suspend the appointment of ambassadors to two countries during the ongoing transitional period.

The President-elect’s office has made a request for the government to refrain from making any new appointments or promotions within the government ranks during this period.

However, it should be noted that today, the Majlis referred two letters which had been sent by the President over the past two months, requesting the appointment of Maldives ambassadors to two countries, to the parliamentary committee for further consideration.

The individuals proposed for ambassadorial roles by the President are as follows:

1. Midhfa Naeem, (Sent to Parliament on August 27).

2. Shiuneen Rasheed (Sent to Parliament on September 5).

During a press conference held at the Office, President-elect Spokesperson Firuzul expressed the view that the appointment of ambassadors should not solely be the prerogative of the Maldives but should also require the approval of the respective host countries.

He emphasised that such actions, in the context of the imminent government transition, could potentially disrupt the functioning of the coming administration.
