“From the land that will be reclaimed in the next five months, we will be opening applications for 15,000 land plots. As promised, 15,000 land plots will be allocated to Malé natives, for those who have been living in Male’ for a long time, those listed on the Male’ Register. Including these people, the people who live in Malé,” he said.

He highlighted a family housing initiative prioritising individuals over 18 without housing and recalled that during his presidential campaign, he pledged support for groups such as single mothers and fathers, people with disabilities, people with dead mothers, staff from various institutions, and those working in tourism. He assured that a dedicated number of housing units and land plots will be allocated for these groups under the schemes set to open soon.

President Muizzu added that agreements are being finalised to build 3,000 housing units in Male’ City and 4,000 more under India’s Line of Credit (LOC). He also confirmed that additional dredgers will arrive next month to accelerate the Rasmalé reclamation process. The previous administration also started developing 4,000 housing units in Hulhumale Phase 2 under the LOC facility, and the current administration is in the process of handing over the completed housing units.

“Yes, we are rapidly advancing the land reclamation process, and in the near future, we will provide an announcement detailing the application process to apply for these land plots; those who are interested in acquiring land should apply,” he said.

The President also detailed upcoming projects, including land reclamation in Giraavarulhu and Hulhumalé Phase 3, with North Thilafalhu expected to commence before the end of the year. He added that an agreement was formalised yesterday to reclaim the remaining land for Giraavarufalhu, and the dredgers required for this project will be brought before the month is over.

“The government is prioritising addressing major economic and national challenges. We are actively working to resolve one of the country’s most significant social problems,” President Muizzu said.
