President Muizzu Appoints Dr Mohamed Waheed as Special Envoy for the President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu today appointed former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan as the Special Envoy of the President at the President’s Office.
Dr Waheed previously served as Vice President during Mohamed Nasheed’s administration and briefly assumed the presidency following Nasheed’s resignation in 2012. His career also includes service as a Member of Parliament and the Special Assembly, along with notable contributions in the field of education and senior roles within UNICEF.
Following his appointment, President Muizzu held a meeting with Dr Waheed at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, Dr Waheed presented himself as a capable and experienced leader, encouraging all stakeholders to work collaboratively with the government to strengthen the Maldives’ foreign relations. He urged attendees to engage with other nations to foster economic growth and pursue achievements in international cooperation. He also pledged his full support to the President in carrying out national responsibilities.
Dr Waheed expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and assured the President of his full commitment to the role. He will serve as Special Envoy without drawing a salary.
In 2023, President Muizzu had appointed Ali Shareef as the Special Envoy for Climate Change.
