The President’s itinerary includes visits to Isdhoo, Kalaidhoo, Dhan’bidhoo, Maabaidhoo, Mundoo, Gan, Maavah, Fonadhoo, Maamendhoo, Hithadhoo, and Kunahandhoo. Cabinet ministers and senior officials from key government institutions and state-owned enterprises accompany him.

According to the President’s Office, during his address to residents of Maavah, President Muizzu assured that the government’s planned upgrades to the island’s health sector would enable the facility to provide services equivalent to hospital standards. He announced the addition of a four-bed ward, a laboratory, and a public health unit to the existing health centre, noting that the works would be handed over to the contractor within this month. He also confirmed that a dedicated sea ambulance will be stationed at Maavah.

Highlighting broader development works, the President said that 15 hectares of land have already been reclaimed on Maavah, with a further 15 hectares to be added, bringing the total to 30 hectares. Once reclamation is complete, housing, water, sewerage, and electricity projects will follow.

As part of his visit, President Muizzu also launched several new development projects across the sports, education, fisheries, and road development sectors. This includes the commencement of physical work on eight projects and the signing of agreements for three additional ones. He reaffirmed that all initiatives would be citizen-centred and implemented with a focus on timely completion.

The President further stated that plans are underway to establish a second airport in Laamu Atoll, which he said would boost transportation, support economic growth, and promote tourism in the region. He assured that the airport’s location will be announced soon, fulfilling his electoral pledge to residents.

While meeting with the Maavah Island Council, WDC, and local institution heads, President Muizzu discussed key development priorities, including the construction of a football field under the reclamation project, improvements to the health centre, the provision of sea ambulance services, and Maavah’s inclusion in the second airport project. The council also requested the installation of buoys for sports fishing near the island.

President Muizzu said the government would carefully consider all proposals and added that, starting January 2026, all health centres will have direct communication channels with the Health Ministry to enhance coordination and address local healthcare needs more effectively.
