President Muizzu Concludes Visit to Alifu Alifu Atoll

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu returned to Malé today after completing a tour of the inhabited islands in Alifu Alifu Atoll.
During the visit, the President travelled to Thoddoo, Rasdhoo, Ukulhas, Mathiveri, Bodufolhudhoo, Feridhoo, Maalhos, and Himandhoo, where he met island councils, Women’s Development Committees, and residents to discuss development priorities and community needs. He was accompanied by a ministerial delegation and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises, who briefed communities on ongoing and planned projects.
Key highlights included the introduction of Bank of Maldives ATM services on all inhabited islands of the atoll and the inauguration of police station construction in Maalhos, Himandhoo, Feridhoo, and Thoddoo. The President also launched new development projects across various sectors and witnessed the signing of agreements.
During his meetings, President Muizzu shared updates on initiatives scheduled for implementation in 2025 and beyond. He announced that Maafaru lagoon would be designated as part of Feridhoo and reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to preserving and developing Madivaru Finolhu for the benefit of Rasdhoo residents. He further highlighted that the airport under development in Mathiveri would serve not only the atoll but also the wider tourism sector.
30-Bed Health Centre to be Upgraded to Hospital in Thoddoo
In Thoddoo, the President announced that the 30-bed health centre under construction would be upgraded to hospital status, complete with an operating theatre and intensive care unit. He also oversaw the signing of contracts for Thoddoo School’s infrastructure development and the southern bridge project, in addition to launching the island’s sewerage system. Preparations for the island’s road development project were confirmed complete, with works scheduled to begin shortly.

Highlighting Thoddoo’s role in agriculture, President Muizzu revealed that the Maldives National University’s Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science would be established on the island. He also announced that seaplane services to Thoddoo will start in February next year, supported by the construction of a dedicated platform. The visit also saw the inauguration of a Bank of Maldives US Dollar ATM service and the laying of foundation stones for a new BML branch, police station, and council office building.
Development Projects in Infrastructure, Housing, and Health for Ukulhas
In Ukulhas, the President praised the community’s industrious spirit and pledged continued support for its development. He described projects such as the construction of a sports complex, extension of the school building, and development of a docking area as essential to the island’s growth. Addressing housing concerns, he confirmed that the Government would allocate 250 reclaimed land plots to the council within a week and would also contract the construction of 50 housing units within the year.

The President further pledged to enhance health and infrastructure services in line with national development goals. Recognising Ukulhas’s reputation for local tourism, he advised tourism communities to operate in accordance with Islamic principles and Maldivian laws.
Meanwhile, in Bodufolhudhoo, President Muizzu announced that funding for 50 new housing units will be included in the 2026 national budget, with work to begin the same year.
President Muizzu reiterated that visiting communities, listening to their concerns, and working closely with citizens remain central to his Administration’s policies.
