President Muizzu Departs for Official Visit to Germany

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed for the Federal Republic of Germany today on an official visit scheduled from today to 13 February 2026.

According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu made this visit to Germany at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During his stay, President Muizzu is expected to hold high-level official talks with President Steinmeier and senior officials of the German government.

As part of the visit, a business forum bringing together Maldivian and German delegates will also be held, aimed at strengthening economic engagement between the two countries.

President Muizzu is also scheduled to visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he will speak on the Maldives’ experience in climate change adaptation. In addition, he will address the German Council on Foreign Relations on the Maldives’ perspective on the role of the ocean in foreign policy.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany, which were formalised on 5 July 1966.
