President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed for Singapore today on an unofficial trip.
The President’s Office’s announcements on his departure did not provide further details regarding the nature of the visit or its duration.
The unannounced departure follows a week of high-level diplomatic engagements, during which President Muizzu hosted leaders from two neighbouring countries—Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of Sri Lanka.
Their visits coincided with the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations on 26 July. Both India and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations with the Maldives on the same day in 1965, following the country’s declaration of independence.
As of now, no additional information has been released regarding the President’s schedule while abroad.
