President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that, as an Islamic nation, the Maldives must give top priority to promoting the recitation of the Holy Quran and creating opportunities for growth in this field.

He made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the 37th National Quran Recitation Competition, held this morning at the Islamic Centre’s conference hall.

In his address, President Muizzu reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the competition, describing it as an important platform for nurturing and guiding the nation’s youth. He expressed hope that future editions will see even broader participation from students across the country, who will prepare with dedication to compete for top honours.

The President said he wished for Maldivian children to take pride in reciting the Holy Quran and to develop a strong desire to engage in this practice. He also urged communities to work collectively towards fostering this value.

Reflecting the President’s commitment to strengthening Quran education, significant changes have been made to the National Quran Recitation Competition. Following a presidential decision last month, a special award has been introduced for the overall first-place winner, while prizes for other categories have been enhanced. With these changes, the event has been elevated to the most prestigious Quran recitation competition in the country.

The 37th National Quran Recitation Competition, officially inaugurated on 18 September, was held from 19 to 26 September across two floors of the King Salman Mosque. The competition featured 1,023 participants representing 119 institutions, including schools, Quran classes, councils, clubs, associations, colleges, and universities.

At the closing ceremony, President Muizzu was joined by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, and Cabinet members. They presented awards, certificates, and plaques to the highest-achieving participants.
