President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inspected the progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project yesterday.
The initiative, first announced during his speech at the inauguration of the renovated Izzuddin Jetty, focuses on developing the stretch between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Local Market.
During his visit, President Muizzu toured the designated site on the northern side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu near the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), where the first phase of development is underway. He was received by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, and the Managing Director of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MTCC), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retd.) Ahmed Saudee.
According to project updates, all sheet piling and installation works for the first phase have been completed, with 82 percent of land reclamation also finalised.
When announcing the project earlier this year, President Muizzu said Boduthakurufaanu Magu would be redeveloped with two lanes in each direction, partial reclamation from the sea, road widening, and the integration of underground infrastructure and high-standard paving. He stated that the project would be completed and inaugurated by the end of 2025.
The project was officially contracted to MTCC on 9 April 2025 and is currently progressing. Once completed, Boduthakurufaanu Magu will feature widened lanes, advanced drainage systems, and improved traffic flow, creating a more accessible and welcoming environment for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
