President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged a series of development projects for the islands of Omadhoo and Kin’bidhoo as part of his ongoing tour of Kolhumadulu Atoll, where he is meeting residents, councils, and local institutions to hear their concerns and outline Government priorities.
Since last Friday, the President has visited islands in Vaavu, Meemu and Faafu Atolls, launching projects, engaging with residents and updating communities on government pledges, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare and education.
Meeting Omadhoo’s Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and local institution heads at the Fenaka Office, residents raised urgent priorities including water and sewerage issues, space constraints at the school and Health Centre, shoreline protection, housing, road development, and sports facilities.

The President assured that the Government would address these concerns. Accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises, he also announced plans to create sustainable revenue streams for the Island Council through the development of two uninhabited islands under its jurisdiction.
He confirmed that the school development project will be completed in time for the next academic year. The 2026 state budget will fund a new mosque, a volleyball court, upgraded turf for the football grounds, and expanded sports facilities.
The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and the Road Development Corporation (RDC) also signed an agreement to commence road development on the island.
Visiting Kin’bidhoo later, the President met with the Island Council, WDC, and local leaders at the Council Secretariat. Members highlighted the need for improved educational facilities, an upgraded harbour, and new sports amenities.
President Muizzu pledged to construct a causeway linking Kin’bidhoo and Veymandoo, saying it would support tourism, drive atoll-wide development, and create opportunities for migration under the Government’s population and development integration initiative.
He stressed the importance of involving residents in drafting land use plans for reclaimed areas and concluded by reaffirming his Administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure, education, and economic opportunities across Thaa Atoll.
