President Muizzu Reaffirms Infrastructure, Education, and Healthcare Pledges in Baa Atoll Tour

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his commitment to fulfilling all presidential pledges made to the people of Baa Atoll, outlining a series of development projects during visits to the islands of Goidhoo, Fehendhoo and Fulhadhoo yesterday.

During his address to Goidhoo residents, President Muizzu announced that the tender for the island’s harbour development project will be issued this month, with construction expected to begin within the year. Coastal protection works are scheduled to commence next year. He also pledged to resolve issues with the powerhouse and enhance its facilities within the year.

In education, he said the first phase of the school expansion is nearing completion, while the second phase, which includes a multi-purpose hall, will begin early next year. In healthcare, work to establish a fully equipped health centre is planned for this year. The President also confirmed that a full-sized football field and a Fitness and Recreation Centre will be completed within the year. Eco-tourism initiatives and a resort development in Goidhoo lagoon are set to proceed, with the resort agreement expected before the end of the month.

The President inaugurated Bank of Maldives ATM services in Goidhoo and attended the groundbreaking of the new police station. He also confirmed that land allotment permissions for housing projects have been granted.

Meeting residents of Fehendhoo, one of the least populated islands in the country, President Muizzu stressed that basic services would be delivered to all islands, regardless of population size. He promised to restart stalled water and sanitation projects, recruit and train teachers for middle and secondary levels, and expand the health centre over the next two years. Sports facilities, including a football ground, futsal pitch renovation, volleyball court, outdoor gym and children’s park, are also planned. A jetty and coastal protection will be proposed in next year’s budget.

In Fulhadhoo, the President prioritised the island’s water and sewerage system, confirming that work will begin in August with an expedited timeline. He announced plans to include an accommodation block for incoming workers in the 2026 budget, as well as the establishment of laboratory services at the health centre this year. A new mosque and further education and sports developments are also planned.

Highlighting tourism’s importance, he confirmed that management of B. Innafushi will be transferred to the Council under a joint plan with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. He assured that all projects reflecting Fulhadhoo residents’ aspirations would be implemented without delay.

The President’s Baa Atoll tour included multiple inaugurations and project launches, reflecting his administration’s stated policy of ensuring equitable access to services and facilities across all inhabited islands. He will conclude his four-day trip tomorrow.
