President Muizzu Returns After Official Visit to China

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé following his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, undertaken at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
During the visit, President Muizzu attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and participated in the “SCO Plus” meeting, where Heads of State and Government held high-level discussions.
He also met with President Xi Jinping, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation and advancing shared interests.
On the sidelines of the summit, President Muizzu held bilateral meetings with other world leaders to expand diplomatic relations and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The Maldives and China signed several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding during the visit, covering key sectors aligned with the Maldives’ national development agenda.
President Muizzu also joined global leaders in attending the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People in the Second World War.
This marked President Muizzu’s third visit to China since assuming office in November 2023.
