President Returns to the Maldives After Concluding Trip to Malaysia

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his official trip to Malaysia and returned to the Maldives today.

Muizzu departed for Malaysia on Sunday for the four-day trip, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Malaysia,  Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim.

The Malaysian government hosted President Dr Mohamed Muizzu with a ceremonial welcome in Putrajaya, followed by high-level discussions. The visit underscored the growing strength of bilateral relations between the Maldives and Malaysia.

During their talks, President Muizzu and the Malaysian Prime Minister achieved several key outcomes, including the signing of memoranda of understanding and an exchange of notes. At a joint press conference, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations further.

Addressing the Maldives–Malaysia Business Forum 2025, also attended by the Malaysian Prime Minister, President Muizzu invited Malaysian investors to explore emerging opportunities in the Maldives.

He also engaged with members of the Maldivian community in Malaysia. At a meeting in Kuala Lumpur, he announced that the government will begin allocating an annual contribution of USD 3,000 in Malaysian ringgits to support the Maldivian Students Association (MSA) from next year. He inaugurated the MSA and officially launched the Maldivian ID Card and Electronic Passport services in Malaysia.

During a special convocation, the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) awarded President Muizzu an Honorary Doctorate in Islamic Leadership and Madani Development.

The President also visited the Maldives High Commission in Malaysia, where he commended the staff for their service and encouraged continued support for the Maldivian community abroad.

He was accompanied by a delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials. President Muizzu returned to Malé this morning.
