President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the presidential candidate for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has expressed his respect for the decision made by the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) to dissolve their coalition just three days before the second round of voting.
However, he firmly believes that the MDA will soon come to realise that this decision may not be in their best interest.
President Solih conveyed his gratitude for the contributions made by the MDA during the first round of elections and extended his well wishes for their future endeavors. He reiterated his appreciation for the MDA’s efforts during this crucial period.
While the MDA’s decision to withdraw from the coalition has caused concern, the Adhaalath Party, the sole remaining party within the coalition alongside the MDP, remains unfazed.
According to President Solih, the MDA’s departure from the coalition should not be a cause for concern.
During the initial stages of the presidential campaign, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had actively engaged in numerous campaign activities alongside the MDA. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by MDA President Siyam in bolstering the presidential election.
However, when the election results did not align with their expectations, Siyam withdrew from the president’s campaign. His subsequent proposal to the council to remain neutral in the second round did not garner support.
MDA currently holds two seats in the Maldivian Parliament.
