President Updates on Key Development Projects Across Narudhoo, Milandhoo, Maroshi, And Funadhoo In Shaviyani Atoll

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to advance major infrastructure, healthcare, and education projects in Narudhoo, Milandhoo, Maroshi, and Funadhoo yesterday during his ongoing tour of Shaviyani Atoll.
The four-day visit, which began on Monday, covers 14 inhabited islands, with the President scheduled to return to Malé today.
Narudhoo Sewerage Project to Resume, Harbour Expansion Approved
President Muizzu confirmed that Fenaka Corporation will restart the halted Narudhoo sewerage project in November. Approval has also been granted to expand the island’s harbour to its maximum extent. According to the President’s Office, additional housing plots will be allocated, a new school building will be constructed this year, and upgrades will be made to the football field and futsal court. Health services are set to extend to 16 hours daily next year. During a meeting with the island council and local institutions, residents highlighted priorities including harbour protection, road levelling, and public facilities. The President assured that the Government will address their concerns, accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior SOE officials.

The President announced that the Milandhoo Airport project, including land reclamation and harbour works, will be operational within 30 months. Forty hectares of land reclamation are expected to finish within eight months under a newly signed contract. He also launched initiatives, including 50 housing units, the second phase of road and coastal protection works, and a sports complex. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for a police station, Islamic centre, and hospital, while passport services were inaugurated. WAMCO operations will begin in January 2026, and X-ray services will start before year-end. Local councils raised priorities including utility upgrades, transport, and healthcare improvements.
Maroshi Health Centre to Provide 24-hour Care in 2026

President Muizzu confirmed that Maroshi Health Centre will operate 24 hours from next year, with funding for additional staff included in the 2026 budget. Fourteen and a half hectares of land will be reclaimed to address land shortages. Island schools, including Maroshi, will have air-conditioned classrooms and staff rooms, with a new multipurpose hall added. Road development will improve connectivity, and the President reiterated the Government’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects on schedule.
Funadhoo Ice Plant Inaugurated and Development Projects Launched
The President inaugurated a 30-tonne ice plant in Funadhoo, the first under the Government’s fisheries sector plan. Other projects launched include a Maldivian National University campus, a sports complex, harbour upgrades, and a new hospital building. The 2026 State Budget will allocate MVR 500 million each to health and education. President Muizzu highlighted initiatives to expand higher secondary and special education, enhance medical services, and improve infrastructure, including a 300-unit housing project, airport development, and coastal protection. Residents’ concerns on housing, healthcare, and utilities were noted, with the President reaffirming his commitment to decentralised and sustainable development.
