President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged Maldivian students studying abroad to uphold Islamic tenets and core national values while pursuing academic excellence.
Speaking at a meeting with the Maldivian community in Malaysia on Monday evening, President Muizzu stressed the importance of maintaining religious and cultural identity. He noted that it was easy for young people living overseas to stray from these values and reminded them that true happiness cannot be found away from Islam and its principles.
The President encouraged students to strive for academic success, stating that their achievements are a reflection of their own efforts, and also of their families and the nation as a whole. He also appealed to Maldivian families abroad to cultivate a strong sense of community among themselves, highlighting the shared responsibility in preserving national identity.
Addressing the State’s role in supporting overseas citizens, the President stated that all Maldivians should receive equal treatment regardless of where they live. He inaugurated new services during the event, including the provision of national ID cards and e-passports, and officially launched the Maldivian Students Association-Malaysia.
President Muizzu also announced that, beginning next year, the Government would allocate USD 3,000 in Malaysian ringgits to the Students Association to facilitate further services for Maldivian students. Additionally, he said consular services would be expanded to better serve the community.
The event was attended by former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan, his spouse Madam Ilham Hussain, members of the Maldivian delegation, and numerous Maldivian students and families residing in Malaysia.
