President Xi Reaffirms China’s Support for Maldives’ Development Goals

China’s President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the Maldives in achieving its national development goals and highlighted the importance of maintaining a result-oriented partnership.
He said this in the meeting with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, this morning at the Tianjin Yingbin Hotel, according to the President’s Office. During the meeting, President Xi welcomed President Muizzu and expressed appreciation for his official visit, noting its importance in further strengthening longstanding bilateral ties. President Muizzu thanked President Xi for the warm invitation and generous hospitality, and expressed his delight at visiting China for the second time in an official capacity.
The two leaders discussed areas of cooperation, including economic development, trade and investment, security collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges. Both leaders agreed to advance China-Maldives relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership (2024–2028).

The meeting concluded with both Presidents reaffirming their shared commitment to deepen cooperation and strengthen mutual interests.
President Muizzu departed the Maldives on Friday evening and arrived in China yesterday. Upon his arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport, he was received by Wang Xiangxi, Minister of Emergency Management; Dr Fazeel Najeeb, Ambassador of the Maldives to China; and Kong Xianhua, Ambassador of China to the Maldives. He was accorded an Honour Guard and attended a cultural performance held in recognition of his official visit.

This marks President Muizzu’s third visit to China since assuming office in November 2023. His first state visit took place in January 2024, during which 20 agreements, grants, and MoUs were signed across fields including disaster management, economy, public service media, human resources, and agriculture. He later visited Shandong Province in November 2024 to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
