Presidential Candidate Ilyas Pledges Fair Prices for Fishermen

Presidential candidate Ilyas Labeeb has announced his commitment to ensuring equitable compensation for fishermen for their catches during The Democrats’ administration.

Speaking at a campaign gathering in Gadhdhoo, situated in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Ilyas highlighted the pivotal role fishing plays in the livelihoods of Gadhdhoo’s residents.

He pledged to facilitate avenues for them to enhance their earnings from fishing endeavors, emphasizing the augmentation of revenue through both fishing activities and fish processing. Furthermore, he proposed a targeted increase in the price of one kilogram of fish to MVR 25.

In addition to his stance on the fishing industry, Ilyas outlined his administration’s plans for bolstering local tourism and eco-tourism in Gadhdhoo. Moreover, he indicated a proposal to transfer jurisdiction over the nearby Gan to the Gadhdhoo Island Council. As part of his multifaceted approach, he also pledged to spearhead the establishment of a medical facility on the island.

Currently embarked on a visit to both Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Ilyas is accompanied by a delegation comprising Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and esteemed members of The Democrats party. This visit underscores the party’s engagement with diverse communities and their concerns.
