The candidates engaged in a spirited debate that covered a wide spectrum of topics, including economic growth, foreign policy, infrastructure development, and strategies to empower the youth, the elderly, and women.
Each candidate had the opportunity to articulate their responses in alignment with their respective policy platforms. They elucidated the potential developments that their leadership could bring to the Maldives and the positive changes that would benefit the people under their governance.
The most lively and engaging discussions during the debate centered around economic growth, policies for reducing the national debt, and the nation’s relations with other countries.
Furthermore, the candidates pledged their commitment to safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty, emphasising their plans for establishing good governance in the Maldives.
All the candidates acknowledged the substantial government debt while assuring the public that it could be managed without imposing additional tax burdens on the people.
Notably, the debate featured a heated exchange between the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and the opposition Progressive National Congress (PNC) presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Their spirited debate extended to the realm of foreign policy.
Originally, PSM had planned to hold a separate debate, but due to some candidates’ campaign commitments, they opted to collaborate with Sangu TV to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates, as mandated by Article 30 of the General Elections Act.
