A member of the public has formally requested the release of the complete report regarding the inquiry into the May 6, 2021, terrorist attack on the Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed.
The request was confirmed by Hithadhoo North MP Mohamed Aslam, who also serves as the chairman of the parliament’s National Security Committee.
The individual in question submitted a request for the full report through an RTI and a formal request form to the parliament.
The National Security Committee released the report in question in July 2021, with some sections of it marked as confidential. In light of the public’s request for the complete report, Aslam has called for the committee to reconsider and make a decision regarding the release of the confidential information.
However, the committee members have unanimously opted to maintain certain portions of the report as confidential. Aslam emphasised that he does not foresee divulging this confidential information.
Following informal discussions, the committee has agreed to further deliberate on the matter during its upcoming meeting scheduled for Monday.
Eight individuals have been charged in connection with the May 6, 2021, attack on President Nasheed. Adhuham Ahmed, who was directly involved in the bombing, has already been convicted and sentenced to 23 years in prison.
The trials of the remaining seven suspects are still pending.
