The ‘Rakkaa’ (Safety) Campaign’s latest initiative, the “Fahi Raasthaa” program, was inaugurated yesterday on the first day of Ramadan, aiming to educate road users about traffic laws and regulations.
Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohammed Ameen led the launch ceremony, which took place yesterday in front of the Social Center. The event saw the presence of key figures including Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, Deputy Commissioners Farhad Fikry and Ismail Naveen, alongside several police executives and senior officials from Allied Insurance Company and Shisha Maldives.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Mohammed Ameen emphasized the importance of abiding by traffic regulations, labeling it as a national responsibility. He highlighted the gradual deterioration of road traffic conditions, stressing the urgency to address the issues of lawlessness and non-compliance. The Minister announced plans were underway for a comprehensive strategy to alleviate congestion and traffic problems within the next two years.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau underscored the significance of the ‘Rakkaa’ Road Safety Campaign in tackling current traffic challenges. He lamented the congestion in the Greater Male area, emphasizing the need for adherence to parking norms and ethical driving practices. Commissioner Shujau also highlighted concerns regarding loud driving and speeding, revealing ongoing efforts to enforce regulations and curb such behaviors. Collaborative efforts between various governmental and private entities, including the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, the Maldives Police Service, Male City Council, HDC, and WAMCO, were emphasized as vital for addressing the issue comprehensively.

The Commissioner detailed initiatives such as the removal of abandoned vehicles, technological interventions, and legal actions against offenders. He assured that measures are being taken to ease traffic flow, enhance accessibility for the disabled, and promote responsible driving behavior.
The launch event included practical demonstrations by traffic monitors from Kalaafaanu School and the Maldives Red Crescent on road safety awareness and emergency response protocols.

The Fahi Raasthaa program, slated to run throughout Ramadan, will feature awareness campaigns, checkpoint operations, and incentives for compliance with traffic laws. Rewards such as petrol vouchers, vehicle wash vouchers, and safety helmets will be distributed to law-abiding drivers, reveals the Maldives Police Service. Additionally, educational sessions targeting students and office-goers, along with improvements to traffic signage and billboards, are planned to enhance public awareness.
Collaborating with Road Safety Awareness and Prevention, Shisha Maldives, Allied Insurance Company, and The Hawks, the Fahirasta program aims to foster a culture of road safety and responsible driving habits among the public.
