The Maldives Meteorological Service has revealed that the prevailing easterly winds over the past few days have significantly contributed to the current haze affecting the northern and central atolls of the Maldives.

The usual visibility, which extends beyond 10km on clear days, has been notably reduced to 5km over the past 24 hours in central atolls.

Meteorological experts attribute this reduction in visibility to the influence of easterly winds, emphasising that such conditions can impact visibility levels. Factors such as wind speed and direction, along with rainfall, play a crucial role in determining the extent of visibility in the affected regions.

The Maldives Meteorological Service continues to monitor and assess the atmospheric conditions, providing regular updates to keep the public informed about any changes in the prevailing weather patterns.
