The Ministry of Higher Education has revealed the establishment of the first-ever registry of Maldivian students studying abroad.

To date, 2,116 students have been included in the registry, with 915 male students and 1,201 female students recorded. According to the ministry, this registry seeks to streamline the management of key issues related to students pursuing higher education overseas and improve the efficiency of government support.

The introduction of the registry will enable the government to provide timely assistance to students, ensuring better coordination and access to resources.

Scholarships such as the President’s Special Scholarship—awarded to students achieving A grades in five A-level subjects—and the High Achievement Scholarship are part of the support available. This year, 19 students received the President’s Special Scholarship, while 119 were granted the High Achievement Scholarship.

Additionally, 1,384 students applied for government student loans this year, with 582 having already commenced their studies. Of these, 345 students have received scholarships to date, with 137 having begun their education abroad.

The new registry underscores the government’s commitment to supporting students as they continue their studies and ensure effective management of educational pathways for those studying overseas.
