Remand Extended For Suspect in Maalhos Murder Case

The remand of Ahmed Ashid, one of the suspects arrested in connection with the murder of 65-year-old Abdul Rahman Adam in AA. Maalhos last month, has been extended for a further 30 days.

Abdul Rahman was found with severe head and facial injuries while sleeping at his home on 13 July. He was rushed to the Maalhos Health Centre at around 01:50am, where he died a few hours later. An interim autopsy report confirmed that his death was caused by injuries to the head.

The Maldives Police Service has taken three people into custody in relation to the case. They have been identified as Mohamed Wisam, 23, of Lillyfehi, AA. Maalhos; Ahmed Faris, 28, of Finivaage, AA. Maalhos; and Ahmed Ashid, 28, of Fiya, AA. Maalhos. Two of the suspects were arrested in Maalhos, while the third was apprehended in Malé.

The court has ordered Wisam and Faris to be remanded in custody pending trial. Ashid was initially held for five days, but his detention has now been extended for another month.
