Renowned Maldivian Singer Mezzo Passes Away

Renowned Maldivian singer Mohamed Majid, widely known as Mezzo, has passed away at the age of 59. He died yesterday while receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Majid was a prominent figure in the Maldivian music industry, rising to fame in the 1990s and 2000s with his compositions. He was also the first Maldivian artist to perform on the international music channel MTV, marking a significant milestone in the country’s music scene.

His repertoire included several well-known songs, such as Elhikandumathi, Uduntharithah, Masthee, Visnaa Visnaa, and Roadhi, which remain popular among Maldivian audiences.

Majid had been involved in music since the age of nine and was proficient in multiple instruments, including the drums, guitar, and keyboard. He spoke about his musical journey in an interview with Hotelier Maldives a decade ago, reflecting on his lifelong passion for music.
