The Parliament passed a resolution today, proposed by Meekail Ahmed Naseem, MP for Galolhu South, calling for increased access to Aasandha treatment for the growing number of individuals with infertility issues in the Maldives.
The report garnered unanimous support, with 45 members voting in favour of the resolution, surpassing the required 23 votes for passage.
Notably, 47 members were present during the vote.
MP Meekail’s resolution highlighted the provisions in the Maldivian Constitution, which guarantee citizens equal access to high-quality healthcare services under the National System of Social Health Insurance Act and the Health Services Act.
Furthermore, the resolution highlighted the limitations imposed by the current structure of the national social health insurance system in the Maldives on accessing infertility treatment.
The report also acknowledged the challenges faced by those seeking regular access to essential medications for infertility treatment.
As a response, the resolution called for immediate short-term measures, including making basic infertility medicines more readily available within the Maldives.
Additionally, it urged the implementation of a solution for individuals requiring infertility treatment in the future.
