The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a warning of rough weather across the country, advising travellers to prepare for strong winds, heavy rain, and turbulent seas, with a white alert remaining in effect until 15:00 today.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has echoed the advisory, urging seafarers to avoid non-essential travel and to take additional precautions if journeys are unavoidable. Vessels are advised to be equipped with life jackets, communication systems, and drainage pumps, while cargo boats should not be overloaded and must carry valid licences. Organisers of diving and water sports activities have also been asked to monitor conditions closely.
Authorities reminded the public to follow all alerts issued by the Meteorological Service, particularly as the southwest monsoon intensifies.
Officials indicated that severe weather is expected to continue throughout the week, but conditions are likely to improve by early next week.
