High-speed ferry services under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) network are scheduled to begin in Raa Atoll later this month, with operations in Baa Atoll expected to follow by the end of July.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which is overseeing the initiative, has confirmed that preparations are on track. A public awareness campaign is currently under way in Raa Atoll and will continue until 21 June.
The programme is intended to familiarise residents with ferry schedules and ticketing procedures ahead of the service launch. Additionally, the company has announced that the first week of operations in Raa Atoll will include free trial journeys to support final testing and refinement.
The mandate to operate RTL services in Raa and Baa Atolls was granted to MTCC on 15 April 2024. On the same date, the company was also commissioned to extend services to Noonu Atoll, where operations began on 24 July 2024.
The RTL network, implemented across six regional zones, is designed to provide integrated maritime transport throughout the country. With the Noonu network now linking 13 inhabited islands, RTL services currently cover 81 islands across nine atolls.
